Why Italy needs a local partner
An American provider selling AI in Italy answers to two layers of rules at once, and works inside a professional culture where introductions still carry weight. Three texts set the frame.

The EU AI Act reaches companies outside Europe
Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 applies to providers that place AI systems on the EU market wherever they are established, and to providers and deployers abroad whose system output is used in the Union. The prohibitions and the AI literacy duty have applied since February 2, 2025. The Digital Omnibus of July 2026 moved the high-risk deadlines to December 2027 and August 2028.

Italy has its own AI law
Law 132 of September 23, 2025, in force since October 10, 2025, adds national rules on top of the Act. It names AgID and ACN as Italy's AI authorities, and it limits AI in the intellectual professions to supporting work, with a duty to tell the client.

AI roles have a national standard
UNI 11621-8:2026, in force since April 30, 2026, defines twelve professional role profiles for artificial intelligence, from Chief AI Officer to AI Security Specialist. Italian hiring managers and procurement teams now share one vocabulary for AI work.

We are a professional association, and what we offer is access: to people, to institutions, and to the Italian community of AI practitioners. Paid services, where they exist, are agreed in writing with the association in Rome.

- AI literacy with credentials
- We train staff in Italy and issue verifiable credentials. AIPIA is the first Italian AI association to issue European Digital Credentials, the European Commission's format for verifiable credentials, sealed under eIDAS and checkable on Europass. A US employer can show European clients and regulators what its Italian team has learned, in a format they can check themselves.

The association behind the site
AIPIA was constituted in Rome on May 23, 2025, as a non-profit professional association under Law 4/2013, the Italian law for professions organized outside a statutory order. It has more than 800 members across Italy.
A Board of Directors governs the association. Its Technical-Scientific Committee sets the scientific direction, reviews the quality of the projects AIPIA promotes, and provides its speakers and faculty. Members follow a Code of Ethics, and AIPIA is an Official Endorser of the Rome Call for AI Ethics.
This site speaks to American readers. The association's main site is aipia.it, in Italian, with an English edition at en.aipia.it.

A book series with its own ISSN
AIPIA Studies in Applied AI is the association's open-access series, edited for the Technical-Scientific Committee by Federico Pichetto. Volume 1, a 332-page glossary of artificial intelligence in Italian, came out on September 10, 2026. It covers 162 concepts across 11 domains, each tied to its legal and technical sources, and ships with a SKOS vocabulary for teams that need the terms in machine-readable form.
